Laminate Flooring
More and more >, KS area home owners who wish to have the look of a fine wood floor in their homes are choosing laminate flooring instead. These floors offer the beauty of a wood floor without the high cost or the pain staking maintenance. Laminates floors these days, are not restricted to artificial looking designs, but companies these days offer a range of laminate tile choices in natural looking stone and marble finishes. Almost all rooms in the house are recommended for installing laminate flooring, except for bathrooms, saunas or areas that required damp mopping.
Installing laminate flooring is simpler, and is often done through the free floating method. Here, the laminate floor is not attached to the sub floor using glue or staples. Instead, the plants are locked together tightly, and a special locking mechanism is used to hold the plants in place. This is especially beneficial if you don't intend to tear out your old floor. Laminate floorings are classified on the bases of AC ratings. This refers to the laminate's ability to resist stains, dents, scratches etc. Failure in even one test criterion will disqualify the product. Ratings extend from AC1 to AC 5. Laminate floors are installed using a tongue and groove mechanism that locks the planks together without the need for gluing or nailing the planks to the floor. Make sure your sub floor is even, before installing your laminate floor.
AC ratings for your laminate floor ensure that your floors are highly resistant to scratching and stains. Even then, use only colorfast carpeting on your laminate floors, and avoid moving heavy furniture across your floor. After installing a laminate floor, the panels shouldn't be sealed. Laminate floors also don't take well to sanding and refinishing. Laminate floors are resistant to denting and scratching, but still need some degree of maintenance to maintain their looks. Always look for an AC rating that determines the traffic intensity that your laminate flooring can be used for. For instance, for a heavy traffic area in the home like the kitchen or foyer, look for an AC rating of at least 3. Protect your laminate floor by using carpets near entrances, and avoid dragging furniture across your laminate floor. Any carpets used should be of high quality with colors that don't run.
